WHAT IS PREDIABETES?
A condition where one’s blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes.
A fasting blood glucose level >/= 100 and < 126 mg/dL
An oral glucose tolerance test >/= 140 mg/dL and < 200 mg/dL
A hemoglobin A1c between 5.7-6.4%
The CDC reports that 88 million US adults have prediabetes. Only 10% of those individuals know it.
Risk factors for diabetes include:
Age (45 or older)
Weight (BMI greater than 25 kg/m2)
Sedentary activity level
Family history of diabetes
