BIO

I’m Mike McDonnough, a dietitian with a love for food and a passion for public health. I help people who have been newly diagnosed with prediabetes discover lifestyle changes proven to improve blood glucose levels – for good! I emphasize 3 lifestyle factors: eating more plant-based foods, being physically active, and prioritizing stress management. My mission is to make these three ingredients of wellness available and attainable for everyone, including people of color who are often underrepresented. 

Combating prediabetes is so important to me because it is one of the most prevalent and reversible diseases that we are faced with as a nation. My passion is public health prevention, and this is the area of focus where the most impact can be made. 

I completed my Bachelor of Science from Fordham University with a major in marketing. After some time spent in music and fashion, I eventually answered a calling to make an impact in the wellness space. In 2016, after completing a Master of Science degree in Nutrition & Public Health from Teacher’s College Columbia University, I began working in inpatient populations in a hospital setting. I am also an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. 

My intimate experiences with patients’ suffering from chronic diseases in the hospital setting influenced an increased focus on disease prevention. Admittedly, in the past, I have been obsessive about discovering all the keys to optimize one’s health and wellness. What I have learned is that living in extremes is not the answer to the question, “How do I live in my healthiest state?” Wellness is not found in extremes, but rather in balance and harmony

In my spare time, you can find me at the gym, my local farmer’s market, at a music concert/festival, or dining at one of my favorite restaurants. My favorite season is summer, which brings out my brightest energy. I aim to sustain that energy year-round with a lifestyle I can stick to; hence, the name Four Summers Life.
